ACG to Co-Facilitate STAR Training at EMU's Summer Peacebuilding Institute May 29 - June 2
Applied Culture Group will co-facilitate a STAR I workshop as part of Eastern Mennonite University's Summer Peacebuilding Institute (SPI). Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience is a five-day educational and experiential training, that brings together restorative justice, human security, spirituality and conflict transformation and will be held May 29-June 2, 2017, at the Summer Peacebuilding Institute. STAR Level I training is a course for those whose work brings them in contact with populations dealing with historic or current trauma. Pastors, social workers and counselors are some of the people who have benefited from STAR training.
Our Co-Facilitator
Our Co-Facilitator will be Dr. Vernon Jantzi, STAR Trainer Emeriti and Star Program Developer at the CJP - Center for Justice & Peacebuilding. Dr. Jantzi’s expertise went beyond his home base of the sociology and social work department to EMU’s Center for Justice & Peacebuilding, which he helped establish in the mid-1990s and served as director for seven years.
He also taught courses in language, religion, business and history. He has extensive experience in international development, particularly in dealing with conflicts generated by the developmental process and those related to natural resources.
About the Training
STAR is for people whose work brings them in contact with populations dealing with current or historic trauma: mental health, medical and legal professionals, clergy, educators, peacebuilders, humanitarian, human rights and development workers — all those who need to be trauma-informed in order to do trauma-sensitive programming.
The training combines lectures with experiential and interactive activities. Learning happens through presentations, physical activity, creative expression, and interaction with other participants. Bodywork, meditations from different spiritual traditions, and reflection are woven into the experience.
